| What
have we enjoyed about this property?
"We asked our architect to design our home so that we could enjoy the outdoors even when we were inside. From the six-foot long windows in the breakfast room we watch the cows with their newborn calves parade by. We see many varieties of birds visti the feeder and the watere features. We see purple martins, chickadees, and bluebirds raise their young. In the late winter we see the male wood ducks on the pond competing for the females. Every morning we observe nature in action as we eat breakfast. Our architect achieved a design that gives us pleasure every day and all he asked for payment for his design was a couple of jars of honey from our bee hives. "We also enjoy the acreage which surrounds us with their bounty. We harvest or own pecans, blackberries, "possum" grapes (Mr. Guthrie's name for wild grapes), and fish from our ponds and creek. Our gardens provide asparagus, quince, mayhaws, figs, strawberries, chestnuts, blueberries, and year-round varieties of vegetables. We raise our own cows and years ago, when our son was young, we raised chickens, turkeys, and ducks - so many new experiences for us and our son. We enjoy our close proximity to the wonderful specklet trout, redfish, and flounder fishing of the Louisiana and Mississippi Coastal Marshes and Bayous. We are thirty minutes from launching, so our home is close to fishing without being so close to Coastal flooding. Our Home is suited for . . . Our home and property are well suited to either a family or active retirees who want to live privately, but not remotely. We are five minutes from town and Interstate I-59, 30 minutes from the Mississippi Gulf Coast Beaches, fishing, and casinos, and an hour from New Orleans, Louisiana. There is always something to do on the property - - gardening, walking in the woods, fishing in the ponds and creek, tending the cows, checking on the fences, and harvesting the berries and nuts. Entertaining has had many venues for us. We have had friends for champagne and hors d'oeurves in the greenhouse in January when the greenhouse was in full bloom. We have entertained with cocktails in the garden by the fish fountains and amongst the flowers. We have enjoyed giving multi-course "French Sunday Lunches" for four other couples in our large dining room. One French lunch included a first course of sauteed fresh frog legs. We had caught the frogs on a guided frogging trip near Violet, LA. If you have never been frogging in the dark of night, you have an adventure waiting. We live a busy "green" life and enjoy and share the bounty of our property and gardens. Our "now forty-year-old" son has many good memories of his youth at 23158 Whitfield Road in Picayune, Mississippi. Click here to go back to website for 23158 Whitfield Road, Picayune MS
